There are places you pass through, and there are places that shape you. For four unforgettable years, Bwera Ntare was the latter for me not just an institution I attended, but a community I served, grew with, and ultimately led.

It began in Year One, the way most great journeys do quietly, with a single yes. I joined a committee not fully aware of where it would take me, only certain that I wanted to contribute something beyond the classroom. That single decision opened a door I never closed. Committee after committee, role after role, I stayed engaged organizing, coordinating, listening, leading until, by Year Four, I had the honour of serving as *Vice President of Bwera Ntare.* Today, that same spirit of service continues as I serve as *General Secretary of BWOGA,* carrying forward everything those formative years taught me.

*What Four Years of Service Really Gave Me.* Looking back, the certificates and titles were never the real prize. The true reward was everything service quietly built in me;

*Leadership that is tested, not theoretical.* Chairing meetings, resolving conflicts, and making decisions under pressure taught me more about leadership than any lecture could.

*A network that outlasts graduation.* The friendships and professional connections formed in those committee rooms have followed me far beyond Bwera Ntare’s gates into internships, opportunities, and lifelong mentorships.

*Confidence forged in real responsibility.* Standing before peers, representing their interests, and being accountable for outcomes built a self-assurance that classroom learning alone rarely offers.

*Doors that opened because someone remembered my name.* Opportunities rarely come to those who are invisible. They come to those who showed up, contributed, and were known for it.

Academic excellence will open some doors, but leadership, visibility, and network are what walk you through them. Every stakeholder meeting you attend, every event you help organize, every challenge you help solve as part of a committee is quietly building the version of you that future employers, scholarship boards, and mentors will want to meet. You are not just filling a role you are writing your résumé in real time, one experience at a time.

*My Invitation to You* Bwera Ntare’s committees are more than administrative structures, they are launchpads. They are where ordinary students become confident leaders, where quiet voices learn to speak in rooms that matter, and where lifelong networks are quietly stitched together, one handshake and one shared project at a time. I did not know, in Year One, that I was building the foundation for the leader I would become. I only knew I wanted to serve. That decision changed everything.

So here is my honest challenge to you: *don’t wait for the right time or the right role* . Join a committee, show up, Contribute, Lead when you can, and support when you should. The opportunities, the network, and the growth will follow they always do.
